UCR Orchestra welcomes renowned pianist Nadia Shpachenko to perform Chopin’s First Piano Concerto. With Bartok’s Hungarian Sketches, Bizet’s Jeux d’Enfants (“Children’s Games”), and Schubert’s heart-rending masterpiece, Symphony No. 8 (“Unfinished”).
Nadia Shpachenko has been described as a “truly inspiring and brilliant pianist. . . spellbinding in sensitivity and mastery of technique.” She is renowned particularly for brilliant explorations of contemporary music. Her CD Woman at the New Piano: American Music of 2013 was nominated for Grammy awards in three categories. Concert highlights include solo recitals at Concertgebouw, Carnegie Hall, the Phillips Collection, and REDCAT@Disney Hall, as well as many appearances with orchestras in Europe and the Americas. She is Professor of Music at Cal Poly Pomona and Claremont Graduate University.
